St. Albans

The Secret Garden
St. Albans is a city 30km away from London, of which I heard only because it's where my husband's workplace is. One of the first things people told me when I arrived was that it is a goog place to get a good home and have children, mainly because living cost is much lower than in London.
I decided to give it a chance, so it is where I went saturday morning/afternoon. It was a market day, so the few streets of it were full of people, which made it appear to be very lively, but when we walked away from the town centre, there was little more than a park (huge, indeed, well cared and full of birds), a cathedral and some pubs.
Coming back, we discouvered the Secret Garden - The best kept secret in St. Albans, a very nice café house with a backyard, a little bit like all those comfortable places in Porto (R. Miguel Bombarda).
I wouldn't like to live there nor to have my children growing up in St. Albans, but it is definitely a great getaway destination for a sunny afternoon, with a book and a blanket, lying on the grass.
