Southbank is the part of London which appeals to me the most. It is a bit like a mix between Porto - maybe due to the long riverside sidewalk, full of bridges - and Paris - because of the café houses and bars with a terrace facing the streets -, but with a great view to some of the most emblematic London buildings, such as the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. This is why on Wednesday evening we went there to get some sun and to try one of the many restaurants that are so easy to find in there.
We were thinking about the Benugo, a bar/restaurant with a charming atmosphere, very close to the undergroung Waterloo station, or the Canteen, an english food restaurant in the Royal Festival Hall.
Suddenly we looked up and we saw a mostly blue and clear sky, but too dark just above us, threatening a pouring rain that, eventually, started to fall, we rushed into the Archduke, also very near Waterloo station. It's a tunnel shape and a bit labyrinthine restaurant, right under the tube, with live jazz music and a very weak but comfortable lighting.
As an appetizer we ordered roasted almonds, I chose portobello mushrooms with goat cheese, courgette and rocket and parmesan cheese, and he chose a classic burger.
It was not in our eating plans for the night, but, luckily, the rain intervened.
